Short of fitting solar panels on the roof, the only alternative in these days of the “Energy Summit” and price hikes, is to get onto a good comparison website to see check out lower Gas and Electricity prices. I mean, even David Cameron, the Prime Minister advises us all to get online and compare! He should know because he’s just held an emergency “Energy Summit” with the top six Energy supply companies in the UK.
Just recently all of the Energy suppliers announced increases of around 16% respectively. It’s hard to decide what to do, but you might consider a cheap, fixed tariff guaranteeing your rate for a fixed amount of time – say a year or 18 months.
Launched in 2008, the “Energy Best Deal Campaign” offers individual families help on switching providers via the Citizens’ Advice Bureau. Through its help, over 94,000 people have been able to cut their electricity and gas fuel bills. The “Energy Best Deal campaign” is a charity and it has seen an amazing rise in the number of people interested in saving money on their gas and electricity in 2011.
As far as electricity is concerned, there are a whole host of energy saving tips and hints if you look on the internet. From changing your printer to print both sides, to making sure you do fewer (and larger) washes in your washing machine and installing insulation under your floor.
There’s also the idea of installing your own wind turbine. I suppose I could consider that, because apparently, as I have a flat roof, they won’t let me have those solar panels.
